I know what you mean about people saying she is in a better place. I hear that a lot too. I also hear that "she is happy now." She was in a better place with me and was very happy with me. Bottom line is..our hearts are broken and we miss our girls. I too am finding it harder to remember details such as how it felt when she hugged and kiss me. What I do know is that when she did hug me and kiss me...it just took my breath away. You are not alone Karen. Hang in there.

Hi Karen, You don't know me. I have followed Leah's story online. I stumbled across it one day and was touched by your darling angel. Looking at her photos, I could see what a special child she is. Her beautiful blue eyes showed to all the world that her heart truly was happy. Yes, it must be hard to hear people comment that she is in "a better place". She is in your heart, and by reading your journals, she has a special place in my heart too. I, too, was touched by the loss of a loved one from brain cancer. The pain is still as fresh as if it happened yesterday, and like you, one day I hope to have the answer as to why this horrible illness has happened to so many of us. I think of Leah quite often. A beautiful little girl that I have never met. I never touched her, or read her a story, nor giggled with her over a silly joke. Regardless, she holds a special place in my heart. God bless you and your family. Mary

Hi Karen, I am praying regularly for Kyle now. I see her around school all the time and she looks like such a sweet happy girl. But I know she is suffering inside. Did you ever get her into a new conselor? I emailed you a while back about an absolutely fantastic women who works specifically with helping kids. Her office is right across from school and she is a devout christian. I don't know if you got that email or ever pursued it. Every time I see Kyle I think about that. So please email me and let me know. And let me know how I can pray specifically for your darling girl......With Love, Robin

Hello. We're on Mott 7 now with our daughter who is 3, diagnosed with leukemia in November. I am very sorry to read about your daughter. I pray that you will find some comfort from God and your family to ease your pain. I want to check out the website you're creating to raise funds to help other families who are dealing with brain cancer. I'm interested in learning about the homeopathic treatments you tried. Although leukemia and brain cancers are different and respond to treatments differently, I am always interested in knowing more so that I can give my daughter a fighting chance. I want to eliminate whatever it is that brought this on, not that it's anyone's fault, but we want to be careful about everything she eats & is exposed to. I have become a "walking poster" for eliminating harmful stuff from our kids lives. I feel like I need to help, not just cure childhood cancers but prevent it. We live in a toxic world. Going through something like this changes your perspective on so much. You wrote that even if you won a million dollars, it wouldn't make you happy. That is a wonderful place to be in your life, even though it was through a saddness that brought you there. To realize what is important in life. Oh how I wish I could back to a time when I didn't know that there were children and their families spending Christmas in the hospital, until I became one. What bliss to think that EVERYONE was having a wonderful, happy holiday with gifts galore! But at the same time, I don't think I ever want to go back to a time when I didn't have this compassion. I think about how naive I was (like you mentioned in one of your notes) a year ago before the diagnosis. I can't say anything that will make your day better today. I can only tell you that I am thinking of you and that I care. Catherine Withrow

Karen, I checked out your new website and what a wonderful way to honour Leah! You are an inspiration to me! I hope one day that I can do something similar in Trey's memory! I also totally agree with you about people saying our children are in a better place. It just hurts so darn much that it is hard to put into words. Hope you enjoy your getaways! I think of you often. With Love and Hope, Lorilee

Hi Karen, Thanks for updating. I LOVE the new website and most of all the picture of Leah. I am so sorry that you, Phil, and Kylie are having to go through this. When you said that most people would not be as accepting in losing a child, truer words were never spoken. I cry just reading some of your journals and looking at the pictures of Leah and her family. Then the next minute I have a smile on my face because of something you said or looking at a picture of Leah. I cannot wait to help with Leah's organization. Please make sure that I am on the list of volunteers. Praying that God continues to give you the strength all of you need to continue on. Prayers for a speedy recovery for your mom.
