All through July I have been counting down the days until August 1st. I get a lump in my throat and picture Phil and Karen and Kylie. I have been blessed (and often cursed) with a very good memory. K I remember every single detail of August 1st through August 3rd. Kris and I have never felt so many different, conflicting, and contradictive emotions as those days last summer. Those mixed feelings continue to this date. We feel love for Phil, Karen, and Kylie...and respect, pity, and pride. We have felt anger, resentment, confusion, and grief. Mostly we have felt scared. I am still not over the fear. Every night we pray that we never have to go through the nightmare that you two have gone through. Nathan and Sammie continue to help us to pray. They continue to keep us in check. We do not understand the "Why". We may never understand. But one small glimmer of redemption lies in the fact that Leah's passing makes me take nothing for granted. I have learned to be a better loving, loyal, and protective husband and father. I thank Leah for that gift. I believe she is an angel. I pray for you all. We love you. Karen and family, I think of you constantly when I see things on Oprah and other programs where people are trying to cope with death just as you are. And I always say a prayer that Leah can send you a sign to give you peace. I believe she can whether it be in a dream or through the Angel Lady or some other way. May knowing that all of us out here are praying for you and thinking of you help you through this difficult week. I hope the baby steps you are taking through God's valley in life will soon bring you to the mountain top. Karen, Please always remember that your baby had such a happy heart because you gave her such a loving, happy home. Children become who they are because of the lives we build for them...apparently you & Phil & Kylie & Batman were what made Leah's heart happy...so rest your soul a little if you can...you made her so happy...hence, "Happy Heart", many children don't think to say things like that...so it had to be exactly what Leah was feeling when she said it so often...she felt loved and she expressed it.
